Marie Anne Williams
May 16, 1957- December 1 2021
Lifelong Schenectady resident Marie Williams of 1080 Pleasant St. entered the kingdom of heaven after fiercely battling chronic illness. Marie is predeceased by her parents, Harold Jarvis and Helen (Ciampi) Jarvis, and a sister Ruth Jarvis all of Schenectady. Marie is survived by her daughter Maya, of Washington, DC, her husband of 32 years Douglas, two brothers (Robert and Richard Jarvis) and two cats (Tiger and Phoenix), all of Schenectady. Known to many as Aunt Marie, she will be missed by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, plus those chosen-family and neighbors whom she loved.
Upon graduation from Mont Pleasant High School, Marie moved to California for some years, where she explored the West, fostered her artistic talents and enjoyed many, many Grateful Dead shows. She eventually came back to start her family, and worked for the City of Schenectady in various roles. She retired after many years as the very first City Archivist. A longtime champion of social justice, Mrs. Williams served as Vice Chairperson of the NYS Working Families Party in its formative years and later served as a Schenectady County Committee Person. Before falling ill, Marie could be found tidying the streets and walks of her Mount Pleasant neighborhood (pity those who littered in front of her!), and following in her mother’s footsteps, she volunteered in several capacities at St. Lukes church.
In lieu of flowers, and with Marie’s generosity and spirit, please make a local child’s holiday by donating to Schenectady organization Things Of My Very Own, LLC.
