She was sweet and kind and she laughed all the time. At you sometimes, but mostly at herself. She showed love and she had a connection with everyone she met. She’d look at you and you’d feel like you were in on something only you and her knew. Like the world and all its seriousness and pain was just a trick that the both of you were too smart to ever be fooled by. She’d look at you and nothing needed to be said. It was all there in her eyes: “I know it’s hard, my love. But whatever it is, it’s okay. You have me. And we’re going to win. Together.”
