Luz Aurelia Morales, 94, passed away early Saturday morning February 27th at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, NY, where she had been since 2015.
Born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, Luz was the daughter of the late Julio and Delfina (Ortiz) Rivera. Initially named Aurelia, she was called Luz because of her lively personality as a child. Her first grandson, Peter, renamed her MamiLuz.
For 25 years she worked as a dietary assistant for the Kittay House in the Bronx and was a member of the 1199 Union. Luz was devoted to family and the Catholic Church. She received a Papal Blessing from Pope John XXIII on her 25th wedding anniversary. Luz moved to the area in 2010 to be closer to her family. She was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in NYC for over 25 years, Our Lady of Angels in the Bronx for over 10 years, and St. Anthony of Padua in Troy, NY for two years. Luz enjoyed entertaining in her home, caring for children, cooking (famous for her Spanish Rice) and helping the needy.
Predeceased by six of her eight siblings, Luz was also predeceased by her former husband of 35 years, Eduardo “Hugo” Morales, who died in 2014. She is survived by two sisters, Emma Matos and Agapita Rivera; by her children, Elizabeth (Betty) Gregg (Paul) of Halfmoon, NY and Eduardo Morales PHD of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren, Peter Gregg (Heather), Jessica Kraft (Nathan), and James Gregg (Andrea); and six great grandchildren, Lucy, Jackson, Alexander, Henry, Charlotte and Madison; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Edward the Confessor, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park, NY (COVID protocols will be in place).
Interment to follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY.
