Schenectady, NY

Lois Ann Harnden (August 13, 1941-June 5, 2025)

Lois Harnden of Schenectady, NY passed away on June 5, 2025 after a long illness. The daughter of Willard and Mary Loeber, Lois grew up in Rotterdam, NY, where she had fond memories of attending Draper School. In high school Lois worked at the Union-Star newspaper, and later worked at Musler's Fine Women's Wear in the Proctor's Arcade, before beginning a career in administrative work at General Electric, where she met her husband John D. Harnden, Jr. John and Lois raised two children, Joann and Elizabeth, in John's family home on Parkwood Blvd.

Friends and neighbors know that Lois was a devoted caregiver to her own parents, her children, her husband, her gardens, and her many beloved pets over the years. She brought beauty to her neighborhood with her gardens and islands of flowers. Lois also volunteered in the First United Methodist altar guild, at the Schenectady Public Library, the Domestic Violence Services program at the YWCA, and at the Edison Tech Center.

Lois enjoyed reading mysteries, and she treasured her weekly breakfasts with her brother Charles Loeber and her sister-in-law and close friend Carol Ann, and her chats with her dear friend and neighbor Denise Tully.

Lois's family is grateful to the skilled and caring staff at Kingsway Community for their many acts of kindness during her time in the community.

Lois is survived by her husband John, daughters Joann Harnden (Matt McKeeby) and Elizabeth Harnden, granddaughter Nova, niece Barbara Arro, niece Anita Snyder, nephew Chuck Loeber, and nephew Bill Loeber. Funeral services will be held at Bond Funeral Home on Monday, June 16 at 10 am. Visiting hours will be from 9-10 am.
