Rev. Leon F. Wardell, 83, of North Main Street, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Franklin Regional Hospital. He was born and raised in Schenectady, NY. Following graduation from High School in Schenectady, he went on to earn a degree in chemistry from Union College. He worked as a chemist for General Electric from 1947-1953, when he felt the Lord's calling. He studied theology at Princeton and graduated from Princeton Seminary in 1957. He served as pastor of Normansville Community Church in New York, Muncy Presbyterian Church and Great Valley Presbyterian Church both in Pennsylvania, Crisp Memorial Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD; and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, VA. Following his retirement in 1989, he served the Lord through Calvary Ministries of New Hampshire, through a tape ministry program. He was prdeceased by his wife Lorraine (Carle) Wardell in 2002. Family members include two sons: Jonathan L. Wardell of Chesapeake, VA; and David C. and his wife Nancy Wardell of Vinton, VA; one daughter and son-in-law Joanne W. and Thomas Kidder of Laconia, NH; one granddaughter Joanne M. Wardell. Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 21, 2007 at 1:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Schenectady, NY, Revs. E. Wesley O'Neil and Michael Alford will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory's Garden, Colonie, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trans World Radio, PO Box 8700, Cary, NC, 27512-8700.
