Leo D Mcilroy

Leo Dale McIlroy, 91, continued on into eternal life on April 8, 2015 at his home in Glenville, NY. Leo was born on May 1, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late Leo Dale McIlroy and Edna Hurd McIlroy. Leo spoke of many wonderful times in his childhood having such great fun growing up with his family and friends and his time in the church youth group. After graduating high school, Leo went on to join the Air Force in 1943 and then received his Bachelor's degree from Akron University in Mechanical Engineering. Leo loved his 36 years at General Electric as an engineer for sales and recruiting, where he enjoyed teaching and developing training programs for new engineers. Leo was a long term member of Schenectady Rotary, The Rotterdam Elks, and The Edison Club. Passionate about life, Leo was an avid gardener, bowler, golfer, and lover of animals and aviation. He was always the life of the party, with a great sense of humor, a keen memory, with many a story to share. Always laughing and a smile on his face, he had a way of making everyone in the room feel special. He was ever so grateful for his life and family and the most genuine person you could have ever met. Just a true gentleman. Leo was the beloved husband of the late Genevieve Cosco McIlroy; beloved father of the late Susan D. McIlroy Loenshal, and her surviving husband, Michael Loenshal, Sandra McIlroy Cahill, and her husband, Eugene Cahill, the late Stephen McIlroy, Susan C. DeRocher and her fiance Barbara Marincic, and Anne J. DeRocher and her partner, Craig Jenkins; loving grandfather of Joshua Loenshal and Seth Marshall; beloved brother of Irene McIlroy Darkow and her companion, Dick Weaver, Rita McIlroy Clayton and her husband, Bill Clayton. Leo is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. A burial service will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens, Colonie. All are invited for a memorial gathering on Saturday, April 18 at 3 pm at the family home in Glenville, NY.
