Schenectady, NY -Kelly Townsend passed away peacefully on November 23, 2008 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital. Her family, Joan and Robert Townsend, give their thanks to the staff of The Inn for the care they provided during her stay. Kelly kept a cheerful attitude during her two and a half year fight against cancer. Kelly graduated from Scotia Glenville High School in 1974 and from State University College at Oneonta, NY in 1978. She worked as a Dietitian at St Peters Hospital in Albany, NY before attending Framingham State College with a Master of Science in Nutrition. She had several jobs in the Boston area including Chief Clinical Dietitian at the Greenery Rehabilitation Center, Consultation Dietitian at the Rosewood Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Peabody, MA, Clinical Dietitian at the Mariner Health at Longwood, Clinical Dietitian at the Life Care Center of the North Shore and Clinical Liaison at Kindred Healthcare. Professionally, Kelly was a member of the American Dietetics Association, Consultant Dietitian in Health Care Facilities and Dietitians in Nutrition Support. Kelly had a love of books and was an avid reader and with friends would attend book signings and frequent book stores. She was the Treasurer of the Friends of the Brighton Library and was very active in that organization. She was a member of the Newton Lions Club where she served as Lion Tamer and Secretary for many years. Her life revolved around helping others both in her profession and her daily life. She loved to entertain at her home. She enjoyed travel and made many trips to Europe with friends and around the US with her parents. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends in the Boston area where she lived for 30 years. Her parents wish to give their thanks to the many friends from Boston and Schenectady who came to visit with her. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life Saturday December 13, 2008 at 12:30 at the First United Methodist Church~ 603 State Street, Schenectady, NY. In a private ceremony she will be in the Columnbarim at the church. Memorial Contributions can be made in Kelly's memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Instittute 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor Brookline, MA 02445 Attention: The Kidney Cancer Research Fund. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
