Katherine Lorent

Mrs. Katherine Lorent (Reilly) of Schenectady, NY, born in 1922, passed away at age 99 on October 25, 2021.
A lifelong Schenectady resident, she graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and then worked at GE for 41 years in the small engine accounts payable division.

She was a longtime and active parishioner of Immaculate Conception, which became Our Lady Queen of Peace, and was most recently a member of Kateri Tekakwitha Parish.

Katherine had a gift for conversation and hospitality that left those around her feeling happier and more optimistic. Kind, generous, and fair, Katherine had an amazing equanimity of spirit always ready with the appropriate anecdote or turn of phrase to fit the moment. As her parish priest once said at a church dinner, “sit with Katherine, she’ll make you feel better.”

Katherine and her husband, Bob, enjoyed bowling, square dancing and bike riding as well as going on trips together.

She was the fourth of five children of John and Katherine Reilly (McArevey) and is survived by many nieces and nephews including, her brother Gerald’s children Kathleen and Eileen, her sister Mary’s children, John, James and Mary, as well as many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace on Princetown Road in Rotterdam on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 10:00 am. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am.

(Masks will be required in the church for the visitation and funeral mass)

Katherine will be buried at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, and the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Father Baker’s OLV Charities at 780 Ridge Road, Lackawanna, NY 14218.
