Karen “Fred” Fowler Oakley September 2, 1963 - June 6, 2025It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Karen “Fred” Oakley, who left this world far too soon on June 5, 2025, at the age of 61 at St. Peters, Community Hospice Inn. Born in Niskayuna, NY, on September 2, 1963, was a life-long resident of Rotterdam. She graduated from Draper High School 1981. Karen brought light, laughter and strength to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Mike Oakley whom she married on June 19, 1982, daughter Danielle Greklek (Joe), sister Terry Avery(Peter), and her only granddaughter Evie Greklek. She is preceded by her mother Alice (Osten) Fowler, father Robert Fowler & her brother Richard Fowler.Karen worked in many places over the years. Her most memorable & cherished place of work was with Lucy & Bob Jessen. They treated her more like family than an employee. She retired from NYS Tax & Finance in recent years. In Karen’s younger years she was part of a rollerskating group at Rollerama called the Pinkettes. She would talk about the good ol days of roller skating. Keeping in touch with many from the group. She loved each and every member dearly. She was a huge part in her daughter and granddaughter's life with the Mohonasen Colorguard from 1997 to present. From making flags or uniforms in the late 90’s for Danielle to spin to donating to the guard in any way possible for Evie. She was an animal lover, leaving behind her dogs CeCe and Honey whom she loved with every fiber of her being. We are sure she has met up with her other beloved pets in heaven. Denver, Jessie, Max, Princess & Duda must have met her with loads of jumps and licks. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.Services will be held at Bond Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Celebration of life will follow at the VFW on Draper Ave from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.Rest easy, Karen/Mama. No more pain, no more sickness.
