Joyce A Pittman

Joyce Ann Pittman, 53, of Schenectady, New York, departed this earthly life surround by her loving family, to go on to be with the Lord on Friday November 7, 2014, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. She was born on June 19, 1961 in Schenectady. Joyce was the oldest daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Ann (Hilliard) Williams of Schenectady. In 1980, Joyce graduated from Mont Pleasant High School; where she held numerous records for track and field. She was a very active student who participated in various school activities, which included cross country, track and field, gymnastics, baton twirling. Joyce performed in school plays and fashion shows. She earned her Bachelor of Arts of degree from the College of St. Rose. For more than twenty five years, Joyce was a devoted employee of The Center of Disabilities Services in Albany, New York. Joyce was a Teaching Assistant and Diversity Trainer. Joyce loved the Lord and was a longtime member of the Friendship Baptist Church and Consecration Temple Church of God and Christ in Schenectady. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, friend, co-worker and most importantly, a great mother. Joyce exemplified the characteristics of a virtuous woman. In addition to raising her children, she took care of numerous foster care children, which included children with disabilities. She also helped raise her deceased sister, Angela's children. Joyce loved to sew, enjoyed photography and was a great amateur artist. She also enjoyed cooking and was very good at it. However, travel was her passion. Her travels included trips throughout the eastern seaboard, Hawaii, Florida, California and Canada. Her travels also included her foster care children. Joyce is survived by her husband, Jessee Pittman Sr., her children Jessee Pittman Jr., Janiqua Pittman, Karsiem Hooks, Charles Williams, Jihad Pittman, Valrie Alexander, Eva Bass and James Kerr. Additionally, her brothers Dennis (Justine) Hilliard, Darrell Williams, Jeffrey Williams and Ernest "Butchie" Williams are mourning her loss. She is also survived by her in laws, Rose "Dede" Gibson, Odell Pittman, Cynthia Carter, Darlene Pittman, Roger (Rhonda) Pittman, Jean (Jim) Jamerson, Jane Isaac, Keith Pittman, Theresa (Thomas) Polak and Darryl (Vicky) Pittman. She is also survived by her uncle; Walter (Lena) Hilliard, Leroy (Helen) Williams, and John (Earline) Williams; her aunts: Miriam Peace, Elaine Washington, and Patricia Jones. Joyce is also survived by several grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and loving friends. In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her sister, Angela Williams. Funeral Services will be Saturday 11am at Refreshing Springs Church 327 Georgetta Dix Place in Schenectady. Calling hours will be Saturday 9-11am at the church. Internment will be in Parkview Cemetery in Schenectady. A repass will follow the cemetery at Friendship House 955 State Street Schenectady.
