Joseph Gerald Gable, 68, of Poestenkill passed away at his home on Monday, April 20, 2015, with his family by his side. Born and educated in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Finley and Helen Gable. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and HVCC and served in the US Army. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Claire, his brother and sister-in-law, Finley and Lynn Gable of Dallas, GA and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Anne Mazzarella, for whom he provided compassionate care over the last several decades. Special cherished family include Patricia, Lily and Gina Fulgieri and lifelong friend and extended family member, Father Tom Morrette. Joe founded his own consulting company and was an independent quality assurance customer representative for major power companies' contracts with GE's turbine division. His outgoing personality and knowledge made him well suited to and effective at his work. His wide range of interests included hunting, fishing, gardening and baking world-class chocolate chip cookies. He was an active member of the Taconic Valley Rod and Gun Club and served for several years on the Town of Poestenkill Conservation Advisory Council. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Joe was a member of a German sidecar racing team while stationed in Germany and, as a young man, raced locally. Joe had a special devotion to his many canine companions over the years; he is survived by his beloved Ginger. Joe was special to so many. His energy and his spirit of adventure and fun made him a great companion. He formed many close and lasting friendships over the years and was always generous with his time and talents. Joe appreciated all who contributed to his care and comfort during his illness, including the Samaritan Hospital medical staff, the caring hospice team, dear cousins, friends, neighbors and club members. Funeral services will be Friday, April 24 at 4pm at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady with a visitation held prior, from 2-4pm.
