Joseph D. “Jay” DeGasperis, 71, passed away on Sunday January 12th at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Niskayuna, Jay was the son of the late Nicholas and Clorinda (Mone) DeGasperis and a 1966 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School.
A welder with Local 301 at the General Electric Company for over 37 years, Jay retired in 2004. A member of the United States Army Reserves, Jay was an avid golfer, hunter and loved being at the casinos. He was also a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge # 2157 and St Paul the Apostle Church.
Jay is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Paula A. (Andreadakis) DeGasperis who he married on October 19, 1968, his twin daughters, Denise A. DeGasperis and Debra R. Saburro (William) both of Schenectady, his grandchildren, Joseph Sutter and Danielle Carrigan, brother, Robert J. DeGasperis (Kathy) of Edinburg, NY and 2 nieces and a nephew.
A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 9:15 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY followed at 10 am at St Paul the Apostle Church, 2733 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Jay’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the B 2 Floor at Albany Medical Center for all their care and compassion.
Interment will be held in St Cyril’s Cemetery in Rotterdam.
