Joseph "Chiz" Cappello 89 passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 17, 2004 surrounded by loving family after a brief illness. Born on August 20, 1914 to Anthony and Marietta Cappello, he was a life long resident of Schenectady. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne (Potenza) Cappello. Survivors include his two daughters, Carol (Paul) Heckman of Glenville and Joanne(Fred)DeNovio of Clifton Park; three granddaughters; Lauren, Lesley and Krista, his brother Patrick Cappello of Vero Beach ,Fl. a sister Eleanor Cappello of Scotia and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother Albert and two sisters Lena and Rose. Joe's life was committed to family, church and country. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was employed by the General Electric Company for 50 years and was an active member of the G. E. 50 year club following his retirement in 1980. "Papa" devoted his time after retirement to his granddaughters, passing on his love of music to them. He was a communicant and active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Schenectady for 40 years. He was also an officer and member of the Knights of Columbus Rotterdam Council as well as the Holy Name Society. Funeral Services will be held Friday morning August 20, 2004 at 10:45 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY followed at 11:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Bradt Street, Schenectady, NY where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening August 19, 2004 from 6 to 8 pm. Internment will be in St Cyril's Cemetery, Rotterdam. The family expresses sincere gratitude to all those who cared for Joe at Kingsway Manor, Glendale Nursing Home, Ellis Hospital and Ellis Skilled Nursing Facility. In lieu of Flowers the family requests donations to the Ellis Hospital Foundation, 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in Joe's memory.
