John Anthony Rudzinski, 83, of Schenectady passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024. He was the son of the late John and Lillian Rudzinski.
A graduate of the former Draper High School, John really loved the outdoors. He was often hunting and fishing, although fishing was his favorite- John and two of his close friends - Paul Mack who now resides in North Carolina and Rit Sheldon (deceased) went on annual week-long fishing trips to Canada for about 9 years. Half the fun was in planning their excursion; there were always many stories to tell when they returned.
John's career began at American Plumbing working for the father of his friend Frank Mazzarella. From there, he went to school and learned the tricks of the trade Working at several facilities locally, John was sent to Lake Ontario to work at the three nuclear power plants when help was needed. Unfortunately, working out of the area and only coming home on weekends took time away from his family. John was a 55-year member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union #7(formerIy Local 105).
Soccer played a part in John's younger days as his dad was a semi-pro player. The family did a lot of traveling as soccer matches were not played locally.
In addition to fishing, one of John's hobbies was collecting antique bottles, crocks and jugs. At times, it was difficult to decide whether to go fishing or bottle digging. Although he didn't dig anymore, he still looked forward to acquiring that very special item John was a past president of the Capital Region Antique Bottle and Insulator Club.
John and Sue visited the Caribbean in the winter several times enjoying the sights and sounds of Belize, Bonaire, Costa Rica, Tortola and Curacao in addition to three Caribbean cruises.
John was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace parish and served as a lector. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan (McCafferty) Rudzinski, daughters Kristin A LeBrou (James) and Susan M. Rudzinski His daughter Amy Lynn passed away in 2022; brother Robert E. Rudzinski. His brother Richard A Rudzinski is deceased. He is also survived by granddaughter Danaysha Fullerton, grandsons Ryan James LeBrou and Gavin John LeBrou, and great granddaughter Nouri Hundley. John also leaves nieces, a nephew and cousins.
Funeral Services for John will be on Friday May 31,2024 beginning at 9:15AM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue followed by a Mass at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church 210 Princetown Road Rotterdam. Calling Hours will be Thursday evening 5-7PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
Contributions can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
