John F. Hooker, 93 , of Mariaville passed away at home after a long bout with cancer on Friday February 1, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Palatine Bridge, NY, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Sweatman) Hooker. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdan in 1937. Prior to entering the service, he was employed for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. John served in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater in the 3rd fleet. He was proud to be a Kamikaze Survivor. John was also honored that his ship escorted Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin to their summit meeting during the war. He was employed as a NYS Licensed Plumber and operated Hooker Plumbing in Albany until his retirement in 1985. John was a member of the Rotterdam Elks, the VFW in Colonie, the Knights of Columbus in Albany and the Plumbers Association. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady. John loved to travel in his motor home with his wife Joyce. He loved motorcycles and antique cars. John is predeceased by his first wife Josephine Mormino Hooker, one son John A. Hooker and one grandson Christopher Michael Hooker, he is survived by his loving wife Joyce Kluth Hooker whom he married November 2, 1984, three sons Jeffrey A. Hooker Sr. (Maria) of Guilderland, Scott G. Walrath (Kathleen) of Saratoga Springs and Edward C. Walrath (Kathleen) of Rotterdam, his beloved sister Eleanor Marie of Schenectady, also survived by his grandchildren Jeffrey Domanco Jr., Eric, Alan, Jake, Niki, Chelsea Walrath, Patrick Casey, Mary and Chelsea Anderson, Luke, Damian and Deanna, also survived by one great grandchild Ariyana as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved cat-Becky. Funeral Services will be Wednesday 11AM at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4-7PM at the funeral home. Internment with full military honors will be at the Gerald B. H. Solomon -Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
