John F Famiano

November 13, 1921 — April 17, 2015

John F. Famiano, 93, of Niskayuna passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home. Born in Schenectady, John was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Cafarro) Famiano. A graduate of Draper School, John honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II. John was a specialist at General Electric in Schenectady for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked for the Schenectady County Sheriff's Department and served as a training officer and patrolman with the Glenville Police Department for 30 years. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, the GE Quarter Century Club and GE Athletic Club, also serving as vice president of the GE Supervisor's Association. John also belonged to the VFW Post 1895, Rotterdam Elks, and the Glenville Police Association. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy I. (Gallucci) Famiano in 1992, his son, Michael A. Famiano, brothers, Louis Famiano and Frank Famiano and sisters, Rose D'Agostino, Florence Giaquinto, Lucy Capra and Barbara Rossi. He is survived his daughters, Anita Famiano of Scotia and Lisa Rapp (Mark) of Niskayuna, daughter-in-law, Linda Famiano of Summerfield, FL, as well as 3 grandchildren, Alissa Famiano of West Milford, NJ, David Famiano of Cambridge, MA, and Tyler Rapp of Schenectady, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. Inurnment will be in St. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
