John K Burnako, 82 of Schenectady died Thursday evening May 4, 2006 at home surrounded by his family after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, John attended Nott Terrace High School and was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 94th infantry in Europe. John worked as a letter carrier for the Schenectady Post Office for over 25 years before his retirement from the Union Street Branch. He also worked for the ALCO for several years. He was a member of NALC of AFL-CIO Branch 358, the 94th Infantry Division Association, the American Legion Post # 1092, Our Lady of Fatima Church and enjoyed gardening, travel and fishing with his family. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Helen Kapuscinski Burnako, two daughters, Christine Greenlund (Jack) of Big Lake , MN and Carol J. Alfieri of Rotterdam, four grandchildren, Ivan Greenlund (Nicole),Seth Greenlund (Molly) and Aaron Greenlund all of MN and Shawn Alfieri of Rotterdam and a brother William Burnako (Ruth) of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held Monday morning May 8, 2006 at 9:45 am at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY followed at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Rosa Road, Schenectady. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home Monday morning from 8:45 to 9:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY. The family wishes to thank Community Hospice for their support and a special thank you to Dr. B. Tonneau for your care.
