Joanne Jones ("JoJo"), 61, of Pattersonville suddenly passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born in Cooperstown, Joanne was the daughter of Irma (Mueller) Skellie and the late Rodney Skellie. After earning her nursing degree from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing, Joanne began her career at Ellis and a couple medical offices. She finally found her home as a school nurse for 26 years at Schalmont Central Schools until her retirement in 2012, but seemed to work more post-retirement filling in when needed. Joanne was a member of Woestina Reformed Church and played an integral part in community and church out-reach programs. She was well-known throughout the community as someone who would help anyone in need. Her passion was children, with her care she touched many lives. Joanne also held onto tradition, including family dinners and gatherings, constantly keeping the family together. Her favorite place was her camp on Sacandaga Lake where she enjoyed kayaking, tennis, boating, and spending time with her "favorite girls". She is survived by husband Douglas W. Jones, whom she married in 1975, mother Irma Skellie of Rotterdam Junction, her mother in law, Lenore Jones of Pattersonville, her son and daughter, Brian Jones (Anita) of Pattersonville and Cheryl Jones Carroll (Nick) of Morrisville, NC. She is also survived by her siblings Barb Steenburgh (Craig) of Rotterdam Junction, Doug Skellie (Deb) of Spartansburg, SC and Dave Skellie (Deanna) of Mayfield; also survived by one granddaughter Mia Addison Jones as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her father, Joanne is predeceased by her father in law Richard Jones. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, 2013 at noon at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady with a visitation prior, from 10am-12pm at the funeral home.
