Joan Tolles

Joan M. Tolles, 89, of Rotterdam passed away at home on Thursday July 8, 2021.Born in Cohoes, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Lillian (Rettinger) Weisenforth.

She was a 1950 graduate of Cohoes High School. Joan was employed for 18 years in customer service for the John Schutts Insurance Agency in Schenectady, retiring in 1998. She had worked in the insurance business for 35 years.

Joan was a member of the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She was very active as treasurer of the women’s ministries, served as the sunshine chairperson, and a member of the Naomi Circle serving as treasurer, she also was the church secretary of education, a member of the prayer chain and attended Sunday School classes.

She is predeceased by her husband Merlin G. Tolles whom she married June 5, 1981, her daughter in law Rosemary Grugan, her brother Willima H. Weisenforth and her sister Janet Contois.

Joan is survived by her son M. Gerald Grugan of Troy, her daughters Deborah A. Ortega (Raul) of Arizona, Terry A. Garvey of South Carolina and Dawn M. Gendron of Cohoes, two nephews William H. Weisenforth Jr and James Graca, one niece Shelly Norton as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Joan will be Friday July 16, 2021 at 10AM at Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church 3662 Giffords Church Road Duanesburg. Calling Hours will be Thursday evening 5-7PM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.

Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam.
