Joan Clarke Crowley, 85, passed away on May 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 28, 1938, to the late Frederick and Helen Tuttle.
Joan grew up in Kentucky, Garden City NY and Marion MA. Upon receiving a BA from the University of Kentucky, she worked many jobs to support her family before becoming a licensed Practical Nurse in 1978. Joan spent most of her career as a nurse at Ellis Hospital on the cardiac care floor. Her lifelong passions included the Niskayuna Bridge Club, cheering on the Univ. of Kentucky basketball team, and being an active parishioner at St. George’s and St. Paul’s Episcopal churches. Joan was also a true dog lover with Annie and Missi always by her side. As a grandmother, “Nama,” attended and cheered (loudly) at hundreds of her grandchildren’s scholastic achievements and high school and collegiate athletic games. Regardless of the event or distance, Joan supported all of her grandchildren. As a mother, grandmother, and friend to many, Joan led a life full of compassion and kindness, always willing to listen and offer encouragement. Her life was centered around family, and she relished family trips to Marion MA, Daytona Beach, Cape May and Smith Lake. While her family and friends will miss her deeply, they are comforted by all of the memories with her.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, John Crowley, and her brother John Tuttle. She is survived by her brother Frederick (Patricia), and the Quimby families: her sons John (Ellen) of Nashville TN, James (Lisa) of Guilderland NY, Jeffrey (Tiffany) of Lilburn GA, Jay (Sherry) of Oxford MS; grandchildren Allison (John), Michelle (Alan), Garrett, Cara, Marissa, Connor, Haley, Emily; and great-grand daughters Averie and Lia. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 1911 Fairview Ave Schenectady, NY at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Inurnment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, her family encourages contributions be made in Joan’s memory to the American Cancer Society or directly to St. Paul’s church. Arrangements are by Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
