Jean Riha Hauptman 89, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016 after a fifteen year illness with Alzheimer's at her son Brian's house. She was born on April 3, 1927 at 4th Avenue Schenectady in the Mont Pleasant section at her Grandfathers Rudy Riha's Hotel. She attended Schenectady Schools and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in January 1946. She then went to work at GE in the payroll department. She married her former husband Kenneth Hauptman in 1948 and moved to Dobbs Ferry, NY. She was employed at Emma Dine Dairy in Yonkers, NY. Then had her first son Brian in 1952. She remained in Dobbs Ferry for five years. She returned to Schenectady and worked for Sealtest Dairy. Her second son Bruce was born in 1958. She became employed by NYS Dept of Labor where she worked for 27 years, retiring in the year 1992. In 2000 she moved in with her son Brian and his partner Ernie Lee who took care of her after the onset of her illness. She was the daughter of the late Patrolman Benjamin C. Riha and Alice Spannbauer Riha and sister of the late Benjamin C. Riha Jr. She is survived by her Son Brian and long term partner Ernie of Rotterdam and her Son Bruce of Schenectady. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning May 3rd at 8:15 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave. Schenectady, NY, followed at 9 am at St Luke's Church, 1241 State Street, Schenectady,12304 where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Jean's family would like to thank Hospice of Schenectady for the Wonderful care by the nursing staff including Dr. John Pezzulo and a special thanks to Donna Holly for her continued care and compassion, also a special thanks to Dr. Roberta Miller and the Schenectady County Visiting Nurses, and Pamela Russell and John Capitummino who gave her excellent care over the years. Internment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY Contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205 or to the Schenectady City Mission, 425 Hamilton St, Schenectady, NY 12305.
