Jean B Friss

Jean Brester Orzel Friss, formerly of Paul Ave., passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home. Jean was born in the Bronx, NY on November 10, 1914 to Mary and Michael Brester. She was predeceased by her husbands George Orzel and Ken Friss as well as her siblings, Helen, Mary, Viola, William, Vincent, John, and Bertha and her long-time friend, Grace Frascatore. After graduating high school, she attended Bird's Business School in NYC and was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper at various large companies. During WWII, she volunteered as a Red Cross nurses' aide. Later she worked as a secretary in the Schenectady City School District. She was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Parish in Bellevue and was involved in many activities there and at the Senior Citizens' Center. Jean also enjoyed the competition of bowling in a mixed league with her husband, Ken. In addition, she was an accomplished seamstress generously using her talents to make clothing and creative gifts for family and friends. Jean is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews and her Godchildren, Allen Brester, Robert Frascatore and Roberta and Janet Hebert. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in White Plains, NY. There will be no calling hours.
