Janet Elaine Doherty

Janet Elaine Doherty, 80, passed away on Tuesday evening July 31st at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. Born in Oneonta, NY, Janet was the daughter of the late Clinton and Laura (Gould) Gale and a 1955 graduate of Draper High School and a 1957 graduate of Albany Business College. A homemaker, Janet was also a former Legal Secretary for Eugene Steiner in Albany, NY, a former employee at Walters Truck Company and retired as an office manager with Capital Microfilm in Rotterdam. An experienced crafter in knitting, crochet and painting, Janet was the winner of countless ribbons at the Altamont Fair and loved gardening and working beside her husband Ed in their greenhouse. Janet was also a talented artist and has a collection of sketches she did of many famous people who have signed their likeness. Janet is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward P. Doherty who she married on April 7, 1957, her children; Cheryl Watts (Gary) of Chino Valley, Arizona, Scott Doherty (Kathy) of Canterbury, NH and Stephen Doherty (Mary Foote) of Rotterdam, her sister; Marjorie Sebast (James) of Lincolnton, NC, her grandchildren; Hope Donnelly and Michael Gray and her great grandchildren; Jilian Rockstroh, Emma Elizabeth Donnelly, Benjamin Lawson Donnelly and Samantha Donnelly. A private service will be held at the convenience of her family. Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam, NY The family of Janet would like to thank Albany Medical Center ICU doctors and nurses for the care that they gave to Janet.
