James M. Thomsen

James M Thomsen Sr, formerly of Albany, NY, passed his final threshold in Key West, Florida on May 5th, 2026. Born to John Everett Thomsen and Rose Marie (Winslow) Thomsen of Albany NY on April 22, 1955, he was the second of five Thomsen brothers. Survivors include; Rose Thomsen of Glenville NY; brothers Richard (Donna) Marlboro, NY, David (Sharon) San Marcos, TX, John (Denise) Niskayuna. NY, and Robert (Chendell) of Delanson, NY, children James Jr (Rebecca) of Crown Point NY and Allison (Jason) Hutchinson of Newton MA; and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim was a 9/11 World Trade Center responder, former firefighter Paramedic of West Albany Ambulance, Colonie Village FD,Western turnpike ambulance and Midway FD, REMO, and an EMS/EMT instructor for NYS BEMS. Jim was a member of dozens of committees and organizations including the Red Cross, American Heart Association, EMS & Rescue organizations. He was a national speaker and presenter and recipient of numerous awards and commendations for life saving work. Jim had a BS in Business Administration from Empire State College.

Jim was an intelligent, independent, adventurous and sensitive soul. He loved Paris, his dogs, Key West, and a good joke. He was a member of the Mendelssohn choir for a period of time, as well as entrepreneur, ordained Unitarian minister, author, photographer, poet, and philosopher.

Throughout his lifetime, he was issued several patents, published 34 books, journal articles, poetry & enjoyed photography.

He was also the owner of a dozen businesses including consulting, training, environmental, safety, and others in NY and FL, most notably Failsafe Risk Management Alternatives.
