James C. Stekeur Jr. — "Jimmer"

James C. Stekeur Jr. — known and loved by everyone as "Jimmer" — 65, of Surprise, Arizona / Burnt Hills, New York, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 26th, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio, while traveling.

Jimmer was born on May 31st, 1961 at Bellevue Hospital in Schenectady, New York, to his parents, the late James C. Stekeur Sr. and Wilma Mathias Stekeur. He grew up in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1979. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia Schwind Stekeur, to whom he was happily married for 45 years.Jimmer was a devoted provider for his family and spent nearly his entire life in the waste management industry, following in the footsteps of his father. He got his start at his father's company, S&S Waste, then went on to build his own company, S&S Disposal, growing it into a great success before selling it. Ever the entrepreneur, after the sale he tried his hand at a number of other ventures — a mobile oil change business, real estate rentals, and even two Quiznos sub shops — but the trash business was in his blood. Jimmer went on to work for County Waste, and later partnered with his son, Christopher Stekeur, and his nephew, Eric Delorenzo, at his own companies, Jim's Roll-Off Services and Advantage Disposal. In the end, he co-owned Consolidated Waste, also known as Twin Bridges. What set Jimmer apart was never just the work — it was the way he did it. He was that rare combination of a relentless worker and a genuinely good man, the kind of person others wanted to work for. He led with compassion and treated his employees and his customers with the same empathy and respect. He treasured every part of building the family business.Above all, Jimmer was devoted. Whatever was in front of him, he gave it everything he had — providing for his family, helping the people he loved grow into their best selves, serving others, and living out his faith. He was laser-focused and all-in, unwilling to do anything halfway, and that intensity was the engine of everything he accomplished.

His faith was the center of it all. Jimmer loved his church and was devoted to God, and at the end of his life he gave himself fully to Jesus Christ — one of the finest Christians many of us will ever know. Jimmer had a gift for seeing the best in everyone and giving every person a fair chance; where others were quick to judge, Jimmer simply wasn't. He believed in people. Outside of work, he enjoyed traveling, reading, dining out, the sport of basketball, and spending time with his friends and family. Those who knew him will remember his honesty, loyalty, sense of humor, empathy, and his generosity.

James was the loving father of Christopher (Brittany) Stekeur, Craig (Cliff Hoppus) Stekeur, and Caitlyn (Franky) Rodriguez; cherished grandfather of Luke and Lyla Stekeur, who were the light of his life; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sisters, Sandie Delorenzo and Susan (Jerry) Wright. Jim was predeceased by his father, James C. Stekeur Sr.; his mother, Wilma Mathias Stekeur; his sister, Joyce Weldon Stekeur; and his brother-in-law, Patrick Delorenzo. 

Though he will be deeply missed, his love, his faith, his memories, and the impact he made on everyone around him will remain with his family and friends forever.

Calling hours will be held Saturday afternoon, July 18th, 2026 from 11AM-1PM followed by a funeral service at 1PM at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
