Schenectady, NY – James Richard Colose, Sr. 88, passed away on Friday, December 25th at Ellis Hospital following a brief illness.
James was born in Schenectady on October 13, 1932 to the late John and Theresa Colose. He attended Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s and was stationed in Germany. He married the love of this life Marjorie Clough in 1952. James then worked as a driver for McLane’s and the Yellow Worldwide Trucking Company. James was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Club and spent many active years working at and attending social events. Members from his era may remember him bartending on Thursday nights and traveling with friends.
Jim or Jimmy, was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was known as Uncle Jimmy to many people in town, family and friends. He was a caring and generous person who loved his large extended family. Jim had a unique ability to enjoy the simplest things in life. He loved this world and loved to have fun. He especially loved his two grandchildren, Timothy and Lora. To them and their cousins and friends he will always be known as Poppy Jim. He will be greatly missed.
He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years Marjorie E. Colose, as well as his parents John and Theresa Colose, and his siblings Marion Adams, Anthony Colose, Dolores Biggers and Marcella La Bombard. He is survived by his son James R. Colose, Jr. (Barbara), and his two grandchildren Timothy Colose (Beth) and Lora Hayashi (Daniel), and numerous nieces and nephews from all sides of the family.
A private graveside service will be held for James at Memory Gardens. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date and a safer time to gather.
The family would like to thank the staff on floor C5 at Ellis Hospital for all their dedication and care during these tough times. And also special thanks to Dr. Pramenko and his staff who visited James daily and kept the family informed with professionalism and compassion.
