J. Alden "Red" Benson 90 of Rotterdam died Sunday Evening August 12th at home after a long illness. Born in Ticonderoga, NY he was the son of the late Herbert and Alma (Russell) Benson. A World War II Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater, Red was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Automobile Engineering. He was a self employed and ran J Alden Benson Service Station Maintenance. He was a former member of the Rotterdam Elks and enjoyed Wood Working. Red was predeceased in 1982 by his wife Marguerite Benson and three sisters Irene Noxon, Marjorie Gordon, Grace Evans and one brother Russell Benson. Survivors include his son J. Alden (Tom) Benson 2nd and wife Sylvia of Londonderry, NH, his mate Josephine C. Brecka of Rotterdam and two grandchildren, J. Alden (Ben) Benson 3rd of Manchester, NH and Audrey D. Magyar (Justin) of Euless, TX and several very special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning August 18th at 10 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Entombment in Evergreen Memorial Park. in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Community Hospice, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY. The family would like to thank Dr. Kirk Panneton, Dr. William Vacca, the staff at Community Hospice and especially Emancia, Donna and Sonya for all there kindness and care during Red's illness.
