Irven F. Looman 89, of Glenville passed away on Wednesday June 14th at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. Born July 30, 1927 in Schenectady, Irven was the son of the late Elmer and Mary (Matthews) Looman of Princetown. He attended a 1 room school on Kelly Station Road and later graduated from Draper High School and Reich School of Auctioneering and had also attended many highway seminars at Cornell University. Irven was a lifelong resident of Princetown, where he worked as a farmer auctioneer and milk hauler in his younger years. He worked for over 32 years, for the Schenectady County Highway Department, retiring as a road maintenance supervisor in 1986. Throughout the years, he and his wife Betty enjoyed the home they built, attending flea markets, buying, collecting and selling antiques at many shows around the state and in the Northeast. A charter member of the Plotterkill Volunteer Fire Department for over 58 years, he was a former president and treasurer. Irven was also a longtime member of the Princetown Republican Club and Retired Public Employees Association. Many years of camping and traveling the United States were enjoyed with his wife and family, along with several winters and cruises in Florida after retirement. Predeceased by his two brothers, Walter and Harry Looman and nephew David Looman, Irven is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Betty Jane (Matthews) Looman, his loving and caring son, Douglas I. Looman and his lovely wife Linda, a beautiful granddaughter, Rebecca Looman, his 2 grandsons, Joshua Looman and James Carson and his wife Cheryl, great grandchildren, Kyle, Jordyn and Elizabeth Carson and many nieces , nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon June 19th at 1 pm at Lynnwood Reformed Church, 3714 Carman Road, Schenectady, NY 12303 with Rev. Garret Szantner officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the church from 12 noon to 1 pm prior to the services. A recieption for family and friends will be held at Lynnwood Reformed Church following the Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Princetown, NY In lieu of contributions in Irven memory may be made to the Lynnwood Reformed Church, 3714 Carman Road, Schenectady, NY 12303.
