Howard E. “Howie” Reese, Jr., 70, of Duanesburg went to the House of the Lord on December 13, 2020 with a heart full of joy on his 50th wedding anniversary. His sudden passing followed a perfect weekend of celebrating his anniversary with family and friends.
Born in Schenectady, NY on October 8, 1950, he was the youngest son of Howard, Sr. and Helen Reese. He graduated from Draper High School and achieved an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Hudson Valley Community College. Howard worked as a civil engineer for the NYS Thruway Authority for nearly 38 years, retiring in 2007.
He grew up playing youth basketball at Bellevue Reformed Church, where he later served on the consistory and was a lifelong member. He also enjoyed youth wrestling and playing the drums. He was a coach and President of the Duanesburg Little League and a Committee Chair for Boy Scouts Troop 51. More recently, he regularly volunteered with his wife and daughter in support of the Future City Competition.
Family always came first for Howie. He was a constant presence at events and activities involving his children and grandchildren, whether sporting events, dance recitals or scouting activities. Fishing trips with his brothers in the Florida Keys were an annual tradition. Road trips to Illinois and Florida were adventures abundant with laughter, family connection and lasting memories.
Howie enjoyed hiking and camping and loved spending time with family at Camp on Piseco Lake. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the new camp for the entire family to enjoy year-round. He delighted in every opportunity to work on the next improvement project at Camp and cherished moments watching his grandchildren go tubing and waterskiing on the lake.
Papa is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon (Weldon), his daughter Jennifer (Sean) Smith of Guilderland, his son Brian (Beth) Reese, Sr. of Duanesburg; brothers Roderick of Schenectady, Theodore (Kim) of Fort Myers, FL and Gary (Melody) of Naperville, IL; several nieces and nephews; and his five loving grandchildren, Jacob (JJ) Reese, Andrew Smith, Allie Reese, Julienne Smith, and Brian Reese, Jr.
Funeral Services for Howard will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Howard’s life will be celebrated in the summer of 2021.
Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam.
Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Howard's memory may be made to the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 130 Cole Rd., Delanson NY 12053, or to Bellevue Reformed Church, 2000 Broadway, Schenectady, NY 12306.
