Howard A Boehmer

Howard A Boehmer, 85, of Schenectady died on April 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m at home. Born June 8 1931 in Bouckville NY to Camilla Boehmer and George Boehmer. He graduated from the University of New York at Farmingdale Long Island. He served in the US Army for 2 years as a guided missile repair specialists at Huntsville Alabama. During that time, he was married to Jane and they had 56 wonderful years together. He was a volunteer fireman in Madison where he grew up and in Schenectady where he was captain of truck 1 before the Schenectady volunteers were disbanded. He worked for 10 years at General Electric Co. in the Facilities Engineering Dept. In 1959, he went to work for the NYS Dept. of Transportation in Albany and in 1963 transferred to the NYS Thruway Authority where he specialized in bridge rehabilitation in the Engineering Dept. He received a $5,000 suggestion award for improving the design of bridge superstructures. He was project engineer for the new bridge to replace the Schoharie Creek structure that collapsed in 1987. He retired in 1991. He was involved with many community and fraternal organizations. He was Master of New Hope Lodge No. 730 F&AM in 1968 also serving as Trustee, Secretary, and Treasurer at various times for a number of years. He was a past Grand Lodge Officer of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York and currently a member of Schenectady Lodge No. 1174 F&AM. He was a 32 Degree Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Cyprus Temple shrine AANOMS, a member of Cyprus Arab Patrol, past President and Secretary Treasurer of Cyprus Temple Clowns. He was past Royal Patron and Assistant Grand Lecturer of Acacia Court Order of the Amaranth. He was past president of the Schenectady Downtown Kiwanis Breakfast Club. He was past Governor of Schenectady Moose Lodge No 251. He was a member of Rotterdam United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2586 and retired Eagles Activity Club. Survivors include his daughter Patricia Gradwell (Edward), his 3 grandchildren; Sheryl Persons (Kenneth), Sean Riccio (Kim), and Darren Riccio (Jodie), 5 great-grandchildren; Noah and Mary Wideman, Doreen Riccio, Darrian (Mike) and Madison Riccio, and his great-great-grandchild Grayson Nadeau, his niece Winefred Martin (Gary) and family, nephew Bill Good, and his beloved dog Lucy. He now rejoins his beloved wife Jane at her side. Funeral Services for Howard will be Friday May 5, 2017 at 10AM at the Rotterdam United Methodist Church 1915 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. Calling hours will be Thursday 5-8PM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Interment will be in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Howard's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital 516 Carew Street Springfield, MA 01104 or to Community Hospice 445 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
