Henry Leonard Bejian MD, 94, of Mariaville passed away Wednesday May 28, 2008 with his family at his side at Kingston Hospital in Kingston, NY. Dr. Bejian was born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Lzar and Selema ( Kazanjian) Bejian. He was a 1932 graduate of the Troy High School, a 1936 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a 1940 graduate of the Albany Medical College. Dr. Bejian was an Army Veteran of WW 2 serving as a Medical Doctor with the 3rd Army under George S. Patton. He was stationed in England, France and Germany and was one of only seven trained Anesthesiologists serving in the US Army during the war. Dr. Bejian was noted for his pioneering efforts to combine heart medications and anesthetics to reduce blood loss during battlefield surgery. His efforts during the war helped save countless lives. Dr. Bejian became a member of the staff at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following the war. He was appointed Chief of Anesthesia at St. Clare's Hospital of Schenectady in 1951 and remained in that role until his retirement in 1984. Dr. Bejian was renowned for his devotion to care, his medical skills and his sense of humor. He was an excellent teacher who guided many medical interns and residents through their studies. He will be greatly missed. Dr. Bejian is survived by his wife Verna, of 68 years and his daughter Mary Bejian, both of Mariaville, four sons Henry Bejian of Ann Arbor, MI, Michael Bejian of Schenectady, Timothy Bejian of Floyd, NY and Daniel Bejian of Sloansville, one brother George Bejian ( Mabel) of Troy as well as Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9-10:30AM at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Inurnment will be in Parkview Cemetery in Schenectady. Contribution's can be made in Dr. Bejian's memory to the charity of one's choice.
