Helen Elizabeth Stewart passed away at home on December 24th. Helen was born to Hugh and Nellie Gorden on February 17, 1908 in Schenectady, N.Y. She celebrated her 100th birthday this year. She was the first of 10 children. She married Ernest Stewart on February 20, 1928. They had 2 girls. Helen and Ernie were married for 42 years. After the death of her husband and her retirement from the General Electric Company she enjoyed crafting and traveled extensively with her daughter, Dolores and her many friends from her local garden club and the GE Women ' s Club. Helen spent many winters in Florida with either her sister Jessie, her sister Margaret or her daughter Marilyn. She was an avid gardener, accomplished seamstress and cook. She lived 64 years at her home on Oaklawn Avenue, Rotterdam before moving to an apartment in Esquire Village across the hall from her daughter,Dolores. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Hugh Gorden and sisters, Jessie Adams, Clara Reynolds, Margaret Algie, Thelma Livingston and Doris McMorris. Helen is survived by 2 sisters, Evelyn Viscusi , Jean Gordon of Schenectady and brother-in-law Eugene McMorris, 2 daughters, Marilyn Stewart of New Smyrna Beach, FI. and Dolores Nancy Varriale and son-in-law John of Rotterdam; 4 grandchildren, William Ling and wife Nancy Raye of Lake Clear, N.Y. and New Smyrna Beach, FI, John Ling, of Twisp, WA., Daniel Ling and wife Teresa Blackstone, of Middle Grove, N.Y., Marilyn Ann Ling, of Port Orange, FI.; 4 great granddaughters, Carrine Henry and husband Gene of Fort Ann N .Y., Monica Alley Pagan and husband Jason of New Smyrna Beach, FI. and Kelsey and Ryan Ling of Middle Grove, N.Y.; 7 great-great grandchildren Aaron Ling, Brandon and Lauren Cannon and Vivian Henry of Fort Ann, Nathan Minor, Mateo and Edward Pagan of New Smyrna Beach, FI. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also a very special friend "Jo". We wish to give a special thank you to the women from Hospice of Albany and Schenectady, (Becky, Marion, Pat, Adrian and Esther) for their kindness and wonderful care of our Mom. We love you all. In celebration of the life of Helen there will be a service at Bond Funeral Home at Broadway and Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, Saturday, January 10, 2008 at 10am.
