Harold E. Fanning, 92, of Lake Pleasant, NY passed away on Saturday March 4, 2017 at Kingsway Arm Nursing Home in Schenectady. Born in Utica, NY he was the son of the late Reverend Peter and Cora (Clykeman) Fanning. Harold served his country in the Navy during World War 2. He trained as a navy pilot but completed his service in maintenance on the USS Manilla Bay CVE-61. He earned his Masters in Education and taught senior high school math for the Vestal School District for 32 years. He devoted his life to God and was a member of the Holy Nativity Church in Endicott, NY and the American Lutheran Church in Surprise, AZ. Harold was passionate about family, cars, biking, basketball and boating on Lake Pleasant in the Adirondacks. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many. Harold was especially fond of travelling with his wife in their motor home. They travelled all over the United States and finally found a snowbird home in Surprise, AZ where they enjoyed the sunshine, warm climate, clubs and friendships. Harold is predeceased by his loving wife Eileen (Mack) Fanning whom he married February 23, 1952. He is survived by six loving children Debra Carlone (Edward) of Marathon, NY, Cynthia Knowlton (Norman) of Springfield, OH, Patricia Livingston (Stephen) of Newport Beach CA, Linda Stringer (Campbell) of Missoula, MT, Harold E. Fanning Jr. (Brenda) of Raleigh, NC and Pamela Chappell (Gregory) of Delanson, NY, two brothers Donald Fanning (Leola) of Beaufort SC and Peter Fanning (Ruth) of Carey, Ohio, also survived by 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Harold and Eileen's life will be held on May 27, 2017 at 1:00PM at Grace United Methodist Church in Speculator, NY. Contributions can be made in Harold's memory to the charity of one's choice.
