Gregory H. Thayer, 85, of Scotia, New York passed away at Baptist Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Nyack, NY, he was the son of the late Howard and Isabelle Thayer. Greg was trained and educated as a chef at the Culinary Institute of America. He served as head chef at St. Paul’s Abbey in Newton, NJ for many years. Later, Greg worked as a machinist at Newton Plastics until his retirement. Greg was also an active and dedicated member of the Boy Scouts of America for much of his life. Beginning at age 11, he spent his youth in the embrace of the Scouting community where he learned values, skills and traditions which served him well during the rest of his life. For these reasons, Greg remained an active and supportive member of the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years. He was also active in Catholic Scouting for many years. In his home town of Newton, New Jersey, Greg also operated an Epilepsy support group through the Epilepsy Foundation where he provided guidance and support to members of the community diagnosed with epilepsy.Greg leaves behind four childrenJames Thayer (and wife Lily Kim), Mary Feuz (and husband Kurt), Jennifer Thayer (and partner Drew Dunlap) and Elizabeth Girolami (and husband Stephen) and his grandchildren Seth, Olivia, Grace, Luciana, Luke, and Sophia.Funeral Services for Greg will be Sunday August 10, 2025 at 2PM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
