Grace Garney

Grace Garney, 81, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday morning, January 25, 2009 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Plattsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Morton and Myrtle Edgley Fifield. She married Francis (Sonny) Garney on June 14, 1947 and moved to Rotterdam to raise her family. She was a waitress at White Tower in Schenectady for many years. Grace was the devoted wife to Sonny for nearly 62 years; beloved mother of Nancy (Robert) Colbert of Amsterdam, George Garney of Victory Mills, John Garney (Natalie Guerin) of Delanson and the late Robert Garney who died in 1968; former mother in law of Cindy Garney; cherised grandmother of David (Mary Beth) Colbert, Mark Colbert, Denise (Edward) Innes, Brian (Lindsey) Garney, Eric Garney, Joseph Garney (Jenn Brumaghim) and Tina Garney (Peter Guerin); special great grandmother of Samantha Naple, Taylor and Christopher Colbert; Edward Innes Jr., Elizabeth Innes and Emily Innes who will be arriving in March; sister of Evelyn (Lawrence) Kimble of Buffalo. Grace was predeceased by 16 brothers and sisters. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services from the Bond Funeral Home, corner of Broadway and Guilderland Ave Schenectady, Thursday at 9:45am thence to Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Rotterdam at 10:30 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday 3:00 to 7:00pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow the Mass at Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam.
