Gloria Angela Pirrone, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Gloria was born in July 1926 to the late Dominick Corbo and Josephine Grottola. She attended Nott Terrace High School. A lifelong resident of Schenectady, Gloria was a loving wife and mother. After working as a secretary at General Electric, she devoted her time to raising her family and caring for her husband and home. She was dedicated to her family, a frequent attendee at services at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church with her sisters. She also provided volunteered help at numerous charitable organizations, nursing homes, schools, and charitable events. She enjoyed a reputation for making the best Italian meatballs and tomato sauce, lemon merengue pie, and was always asked to make the chocolate birthday cakes and favorite Italian cookies for family. We fondly remember Gloria as a wonderful singer and harmonizer to many songs. In December of 2014, Gloria left her home of 50 years and moved into a nursing facility to get the care she needed. As a resident at EDDY Village Green, she was treated with dignity, loving care and kindness, which her family greatly appreciates. Her family also thanks the staff of EDDY Senior Care in Schenectady for supporting and caring for her for over 2 years, and St. Luke's Pastoral Care for home visits to Gloria and husband Anthony. Gloria lost her beloved husband of 65 years, Anthony Pirrone, Sr., in March. She is survived by many relatives, children, grandchildren, and friends. Survivors include her beloved sister Lillian Corbo; children: JoAnn Pirrone, Aline Pirrone and Jeff Purdy, Anthony Pirrone Jr. and life companion Marie Maitland, Matthew Pirrone and wife Elaine, Edward Pirrone and wife Lori Ann; grandchildren Jennifer and Brian Allocca, Tonya Pirrone, Nicole and Jason Duke, Anthony Pirrone III, Bryan and Allie Pirrone, and Danielle Pirrone; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gloria was predeceased by several siblings. On Gloria's behalf, the family would like to invite family members and friends to join us at the Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Calling hours are from 6-8 on Friday, September 18. Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 19 at Bond.
