Glen L Mastro

February 6, 1924 — March 25, 2017

Glen L Mastro, 93, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Glen was born in Schenectady, the eldest son of the late Gustino and Philomena Paoline Mastro. As a child and young man growing up in the depression era he relied on the strong family values that were instilled in him to see him through -as he sharpened his quick wit which gave the edge to his noticeable dry sense of humor. Mathematics and numbers became his passion - and ultimately his career, carrying over into his retirement years were he enjoyed all types of card games to keep his mind active. He was a graduate of the former Nott Terrace High School. After serving his country in the Army Air Force during WWII he attended Bentley School of Accounting & Finance in Boston - graduating in 1946. Glen returned to the Schenectady area after graduating Bentley to begin his long career in the accounting & finance field. In 1956, He took a position with the Federal Electric Corporation tasked with setting up and operating their payroll dept. in support of the US Dept of Air Forces' Cold War era "White Alice" Telecommunications Network (WACS) in Anchorage, Alaska. After project completion, he returned to the Schenectady area to continue his career with the NYS Dept of Taxation & Finance -and finally retiring with the Schenectady County Finance Dept. In addition to his parents, Glen was predeceased by his step mother, Laura DiCintio Mastro; his sisters Yolanda McDonald and Dorothy Almond; and brother Rudy Mastro. Survivors include his daughter Jeanne Mastro (Joe), & sons Philip Mastro and Gregory Mastro; brother Gustino Mastro and sister SR. Norina Mastro; grandchildren Gregory and Joseph. The family would like to thank the staff of the Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center, Albany Stratton VA Medical Center and the Scotia Mansion Home for adults for all of the extraordinary care and compassion he received at the point in his life when the independence he valued so greatly slipped away with age.
