Gail Snyder, of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully at home and under the supportive care of Community Hospice on January 22nd, 2025. She was born on April 2nd, 1948, in Syracuse, NY to the late Arthur F. Snyder and Madge Snyder. Gail grew up in Massena, NY and attended Massena High School. She proudly worked her entire career for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, where she made lifelong friendships with many of her coworkers, one of which becoming her future son-in-law!
Gail was an avid artist who enjoyed working in many different mediums and styles. Among her various inspirations, she most fondly liked to create sketches of animals as she had an unparalleled compassion for them. During her lifespan Gail cared for a wide variety of pets; her horse Ginger, a rabbit named Harry, Chad her parakeet, and a few transient feline wanderers who found their way permanently into her home. Most dear to her, however, was her affection for dogs. She found their cheery demeanor, empathetic personalities, and close companionship to be incredibly rewarding.
Gail was admired for her appreciation for all the small things in life and for not taking any of her relationships or kindnesses offered to her for granted. She possessed a dynamic sense of humor, smiling and laughing whenever in the company of her friends and family and enjoying being teased by those closest to her. Gail will be remembered most, however, for her tremendous heart. She celebrated others and their accomplishments with incredible enthusiasm. And she was regularly turned to for comfort and support when hardships were faced, never refusing to help even if beyond her own means and often doing so when others would not.
Gail was a loving mother to her two children, Kimberly (James) Swanteck, and Derek (Rebecca) Dunbar, and a proud grandmother to Charlotte (7) and Henry (4) Dunbar. She was predeceased by her older brother, Arthur C. Snyder, and survived by her younger siblings Michele Rowe, Thomas Snyder, and Lori (Aaron) Willman.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00am for visitation and a memorial service at 12:00pm at the Bond Funeral Home at 1614 Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY on Saturday, February 1st. Immediately following the service all in attendance are invited for lunch at Clinton’s Ditch at 112 S College St, Schenectady, NY.
Gail was passionate about gardening and loved caring for her many houseplants, therefore flowers are welcomed from any wishing to honor her memory. Contributions in her name may also be sent to the Mohawk Humane Society at: https://mohawkhumane.org/donate
