George Edward Van Buren born June 2, 1935 passed away peacefully October 14th, 2025 at age of 90. Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville is where George had contracted pneumonia and fought kidney failure.
Born to Mary Elizabeth Warner and Harold Phillip Van Buren. Also predeceased by his "Mom" who raised him, Josephine Agnes Galligan-Van Buren, after his mother Mary's death from appendicitis in Feb 1939. George was the young age of 3. The family blended on October 14th, 1939 "His, Hers and Ours" and continued to grow. Both George Van Buren age 3 and brother Edward Galligan age 3 both being born in June1935 playing in the back yard were the reason their mother and father met and decided to join their families, fell in love and grew a larger family. The parents added four more children Lawrence, Josephine, Margaret and Barbara making their total children twelve. The family fondly recollected the movie Cheaper by the Dozen emphasizing that true happiness comes from valuing what you have, rather than pursuing professional goals at the expense of family life.
George graduated high school and joined the US Army where he was in the Missile Corp. When he returned home from the service, he then helped support his family by working as a professional painter. Later he moved to Gloversville and worked at TaylorMade company where he ran second shift making windshields for yachts.
George was married to Mary Susan Gillis helping to raise her daughter Deborah Derosha and both had three more children, Gregory Kenneth Van Buren (Nicole), Karen Elizabeth Van Buren and Mark Van Buren. He and Mary Susan Gillis divorced and he then married Florence Bartlett and together had one more daughter, Christina Rose Van Buren. George was also step father to Johnny Bartlett and Timothy Bartlett.
George has 2 Grandsons, Kenneth George Van Buren, Daniel Mark Van Buren he also has 2 granddaughters both from Loganville GA. Ashley Nicole Van Buren, Brittany Elizabeth Van Buren. Eight great grandchildren Connor Bailey Van Buren, Adrianna Elizabeth Van Buren Bracewell, Alexander Crow Van Buren Bracewell, Astin Zane Bracewell, Carol Adilyn Bracewell, Barron Adam Bracewell, Baylee Asher Bracewell, Braxton Mathew Nunnelley. He also has a multitude of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
George is predeceased by 8 siblings, Harold "ReRe" Jacob Van Buren, Mary Elizabeth Bleser, Doris Mae Clemens, Jennie Helena Van Buren, Betty Lou Lindemann, Charles Roland Van Buren, Edward Galligan, Josephine Louise Higginbotham.
Survived by Lawrence Joseph Van Buren, Margaret Ann La Bar and Barbara Marie Berger.
Resting place will be at Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors at 1pm on Thursday October 30th.
