George "Barney" Keszey, 85 of Schenectady died Thursday December 23, 2004 at Ellis hospital after a brief illness. Born in Rotterdam, NY in 1919, Barney was the son of the late Antol and Mary (Toth) Keszey and graduated from Draper High School. During WWII, he served his country honorably for four years with the U.S. Army in North Africa, at the initial landing at the Anzio beachhead and throughout Italy. Following the war he was employed at the American Locomotive Company and eventually retired from the City of Schenectady Parks and Recreation Department in 1986. A devoted family man, he enjoyed baseball, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was active and independent and always willing to help family and friends. Barney was predeceased by his wife, Jennie (Marcinek) Keszey of Schenectady who died in 1990. Survivors include his sister, Charlotte Buttino; his in-laws, Bertha and Joseph Fazzone of Schenectady; his daughter, Karen (Keszey) Pike of South Yarmouth, Mass; two sons David Keszey and wife Carol of Underhill, VT; and Dale Wade-Keszey and wife Joan of Niskayuna. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Justin Defazio, Amy Brewis, Douglas Pike, Kimberly Keszey, Jacob Keszey, Levi Keszey and Brendan Wade-Keszey. There are two great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning December 28, 2004 at 11 am at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Internment will be in Park View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mabee Farm Historical Site in Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150 in memory of George "Barney" Keszey
