George W. St. John passed away June 6th 2014 at the age of 91. George was the Son of the late John and Rose St. John and lived in Rotterdam, New York his whole life. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers, Paul St.John, Raymond St.John and his sister Mary Fagel. George was a life long resident of Rotterdam NY, attended Draper High School in Rotterdam and graduated in 1940. George served in the U.S. Army European Theater of Operations as a Tech. Sergeant from "D" Day until his honorable discharge on November 27, 1945. George was in the retail business for 42 years in Rotterdam. He was active in many organizations serving as President of the Rotterdam Kiwanis Club, President of the N.Y. State Package Stores Association and Exalted Ruler of the Schenectady Elks Club. George accumulated thousands of hours of volunteer service at St. Clare's and Ellis Hospitals. He was a Lector at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, faithfully attending Mass daily. George is survived by his wife Lorraine (Lorey), and Sister Kathryn Levey; His eldest son Jack B. St. John and Jack's wife Jane Elizabeth (Castaneda) St. John; their children David Castaneda, and wife Tara; Jaryn Castaneda (Bassett) and Julia Castaneda; George's younger son, David St. John and his wife Molly, and their children, David, Ashley, Matthew and Jason. Friends and Relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Road in Rotterdam, on Tuesday, June 10th at 9:30 A.M. There will be no calling hours by request. The interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, on Albany Street in Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, the City Mission of Schenectady or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
