Frederick J. Kokosa Sr.,76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening May 5th at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany, NY.
Born in Schenectady and a graduate of Guilderland High School, Fred was the son of the late Frank A. and Hildegarde (Meidtner) Kokosa.
A former member of the Army National Guard, Fred owned a body shop prior to working for Golub Corporation for over 30 years as a diesel mechanic and later a driver prior to his retirement in the mid 2000’s.
Devoted to his family and canine companions, Opie and Soozie; Fred was a jack of all trades who enjoyed camping, kayaking, and building and operating remote controlled boats. He also collected Lionel trains. “Papa” especially enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandson Keegan.
Predeceased by his granddaughter, Breanne Hope Robles and his twin sister, Sandra DeCarlo, Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Paula J. (DeOrazio) Kokosa who he married on October 2, 1971; his children, Lorinda Gandrow (Erik) of Rotterdam, Aimee Kokosa of Rotterdam, Fred Kokosa Jr. of Schenectady and Heather Robles (Rick) of Rotterdam; his grandchildren, Ricky and Keegan Frederick Robles; his brother, Ron Kokosa (Nancy) of Guilderland, a sister, Kathie Wilson (Bob) of Rotterdam, a brother-in-law, Joseph DeCarlo of Schenectady and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at St Adalbert's Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY on Wednesday, May 13th at 11 am. Please follow all social distancing guidelines while at the services!
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 in Fred’s memory.
