Freda R. Keller of Scotia and Vero Beach, Fl. Passed peacefully away at the age of 103 on March 7th. Freda was born on November 27th 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of Ludwig and Berta Katterfeld. After graduating from Farmingdale CC and attending Hunter College, Freda had a long career in publishing with Doubleday & Co. An avid traveler, she was able to visit all over the world, usually in the company of her sisters. Books, NYT crosswords and Scrabble were major interests as well as her close but spread out family. Freda was predeceased by her sisters, Marjorie Hagenberger of Melbourne, FL. And Louise Alexander of Atlanta, GA as well as her granddaughter Nancy Piggot of Coram, NY. Freda is survived by her daughters, Frances Scrafford (Roy) of Scotia and Susan Oman (Richard) of Huntington, NY, her granddaughters Christine Castano (Joe) of San Pedro, CA., Erin Pelletier (Andy) of Voorheesville and Meg Scrafford (Mike) of Escondido, CA, great grandson Spencer Opie, and great granddaughter Madeline Pelletier. Freda is also survived by her two brothers, Thomas Katterfeld of Merrick, NY and William Katterfield of Naples, FL. and many nieces and nephews. Freda was a wise and witty person who personified the successful independent 20th century woman. She will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements will be private, as per her wishes.
