Frank W. Holub Jr.

October 6, 1957 — October 4, 2025

Rotterdam, NY

Frank W. Holub Jr. of Rotterdam passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at home, after years of battling multiple health challenges. Frank was born on October 6, 1957, to Charlotte L. (Ferguson) and Frank W. Holub in Schenectady, NY. He spent his early years growing up on the family farm on Mariaville Road until his family moved to Scotch Ridge Road. Frank graduated from Schalmont High School and SUNY Morrisville.

After high school, Frank moved to Colorado and spent ten years working in construction, before returning to Rotterdam. The time he spent there helped form many lifelong friendships and expand his love of the outdoors. Upon his return, Frank made a career as a residential and commercial painter. He was often seen on the exterior jobs with his faithful black lab Zack, who waited patiently for him at the base of his ladder to get his pat on the head when Frank came back down.

Frank met Kathleen Lynch in October of 1993, and they married on November 11, 1995. He is survived by this wife of 29 years and their two children, Michaela and Madeline; his brother, David of Rotterdam; his aunt, Ethel Jean Krajewski of Duanesburg; his mother-in-law, Trudi Lynch of Glenville, his brother-in-law, Edward Ullmann of Mt. Tremper; his sister-in-law Maureen Lynch (Peterson) of Hadley, MA; nieces and nephew, Kristin Maxwell of Bow, NH, Cassidy Peterson of Alexandria, VA and Liam Peterson of Hadley, MA and grandniece Annabelle Maxwell of Bow, NH.

Frank also shared a very special bond with his many cousins, who have supported him and the family through the years. He was especially close to Dan (Dale) Peterson of Glenville and Mark (Carolyn) Krajewski of Rotterdam who bolstered him when he needed it, and whom he considered like brothers. He also leaves behind his great friend Dan Coombs of Duanesburg, who was always ready for their “Holy Sunday” traditional lunch. Frank had so many close friends from high school and beyond, who have remained in touch all these years. There are too many of you to name, but you all had an impact on his life and for that he was truly a lucky man.

He was predeceased by his parents Frank W. Holub Sr. and Charlotte L. McClaine, his sister, Patricia A. Ullmann and brother-in-law, John R. Peterson.

Frank loved being outdoors and was never happier than when he was camping with the family on Cayuga Lake. He taught Maddie to fish there and created memories for a lifetime. Every winter he was waiting for the snow to fly so he could go off on his snowmobile, even strapping oxygen tanks on when needed, so he could head off for a day on the trails with his friends.

Frank experienced multiple heart attacks which lead to a triple bypass in 2012. At that time, they also found he had Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a terminal lung condition. Frank fought until he needed a lung transplant to survive and ultimately received a heart and bilateral lung transplant on October 11, 2019, at NYU Langone Hospital in New York City. The triple transplant saved his life and gave us 2,185 of what our family called the “Extra Days”. He fought valiantly through all these years of medical challenges and continued to fight until the very end.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13th from 10:00 – 12:00 at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. Celebration of Life to immediately follow at Noon. Interment will be at Esperance Cemetery at the discretion of the family.
