On Sunday, December 13, 2015, Evelyn Barrett went into the arms of our Lord. She was the only child of John and Mabel Pickard. Evelyn was born on June 19, 1913. Evelyn attended Schenectady schools. In younger days, Evelyn worked at General Electric. In later days she worked at Hallmark Nursing Center as a receptionist. She was the loving wife of Robert L. Barrett who she married in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1994 after a long illness. In later years, she was the loving companion of Gordon J. Westervelt who passed away in 2004. Evelyn was an inactive member of George Hope Chapter #271 Eastern Stars for 45 years. She bowled with the woman's merchant league for 25 years. In younger days, she attended the Salvation Army Church. Later she was a member of Bellevue Reformed Church and at the time of her death she attended the Nazarene Church in Schenectady. She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Charles) E. Shepard of Waldwick, NJ and Roberta (Wayne) J. Brown of Rotterdam. She is survived by 5 grandchildren, Gregory (Allison) Brown, Lisa Dunston, David Shepard and two grandchildren that have predeceased her, Michael T. Shepard and Deborah C. Brown, seven great grandchildren, Ashley and Katelynn Brown, Victoria Dunston, Brendan, Brooke and Christian Shepard and Alisha Kuder, two great great grandchildren, Hailey Elizabeth Sanders and Sal Cusato. She is also survived by two nephews, Robert (Karen) Barrett of Saratoga and Mark Barrett of Michigan. Evelyn leaves her precious and loving cat, Sammy who has been her companion for several years. She also leaves behind many personal friends. A visitation will be Friday, December 18 from 10am-12pm at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady; followed by funeral services at 12pm. Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam. Contributions in Evelyn's name can be made to Peppertree Animal Rescue, PO Box 2396, Albany, NY 12220.
