Estella Thomas

Estella Thomas, 93, formerly of Emmett Street Schenectady died Wednesday October 4, 2006 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany. Estella was born in Rutledge, GA and was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Smith. A homemaker, Estella worked for New York State Office of General Services for over 10 years before retiring in 1976. She was a NY State foster grandparent for over 18 years, serving at Oswald D. Heck and Christ Day Care both in Schenectady. A member of the Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Schenectady, she served as past president of the church choir, was a Sunday school teacher, was a mother on the Senior Usher Board, a grandmother to the Youth Choir and was active member of the missionary board. Even in convalescence Estella still managed to be a companion to the less fortunate. Estella was predeceased by her husband Ernest Thomas who she married in 1935, one daughter Robin Sharpe and two brothers Lemar Thomas and Grant Thomas. Estella was also parental guardian to the late Druellyn Davis, Florida Mae Akins, Virginia Enous and Betty Enous Coney. She is survived by several grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren, Several Grand Nieces and Nephews, Several Great Grand Nieces and Nephews and several Great Great Grand Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be Monday 12:30PM at the Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church 809 Strong Street Schenectady. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be Monday 11:00AM-12:30PM at the church. Internment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie. Contribution's can be made in Estella's memory to the Mt.
