Ernestine C Merrihew (Smith)

Ernestine C. Merrihew, 87, of Dunaesburg passed away on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn in Albany. Born in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Ernestine (Lee) Smith. She was employed in computer forwarding for the US Post Office on Karner Road in Colonie. Ernestine was a wonderful and strong woman. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother. Ernestine was an incredible seamstress. She also was a trained classical dancer. She is predeceased by her first husband Joseph Chevalier, her brother Robert Smith and her sister Grace Barton. Ernestine is survived by her husband Ralph H. Merrihew whom she married June 30, 1984, seven children-Ernie Lee Blickenstaff (Rick), David J. Chevalier, Genie Tighe (Terry), Elinor Fellows (Ron), Elaine Peragrim (Donnie), Daniel Chevalier and Demis Chevalier. She is also survived by six step children Ralph L. Merrihew (Sandy), Sharon Jewett (Donnie), Robert Merrihew (Rene'), Debra LaBier, William Merrihew (Jimmy) and Michael Merrihew (Michele). Ernestine also has one brother Jack Smith and is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Ernestine's life will be private at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterford, NY. Contributions can be made in Ernestine's memory to the St. Peter's Hospice Inn 315 S. Manning Boulevard Albany, NY 12208.
