Ernest (Ernie) Agresta passed away on December 1, 2019, at the age of 91 years old. After months of failing health, he died peacefully at home.

Born and raised in Schenectady, he was the son of Arcangelo and Marta Agresta. Ernest grew up in Bellevue with his two brothers Edwin and Anthony. Not only were they his brothers but his best friends for his lifetime. He attended Mont Pleasant high school where he excelled in football and track. In 1950, Ernest enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served for four years on the USS Newport News (the Gray Ghost).

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Ethel DeLuke Agresta, his children Bruce (Karen) Agresta, John (Lisa) Agresta, Martha (Bruce) Turek and Teresa Agresta, his brother Edwin (Theresa) Agresta; 10 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren. Ernest was predeceased by one brother Anthony (Gloria) Agresta. He was loved and cherished by his wife and children. He will always be remembered for his good nature, upbeat attitude, sense of humor and most of all strong family values.

Ernest founded Schenectady Business Machines in 1954 and sold office equipment throughout the Capital District until retiring at age 88. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed building long lasting relationships in the community. He was the former member and past President of The Schenectady Kiwanis Club. A communicant at St. Joseph’s Church and most recently a communicant at St. Luke’s Catholic Church.

Patriarch of the Agresta family, Ernest was a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially with his 10 grandchildren; Kristina (Justin), Nikko (Cayla), Joelle, Tyler (Tesia), Anthony, Marisa, Danielle, Ryan, Thomas, and Alexander and his three great grandchildren; Madeline, Penelope, and Emersen. He was the type of grandfather that always took great interest in what was going on in his grandchildren's lives. He called them on a regular basis and made every effort to attend all their individual accomplishments.

The Family would like to recognize and thank everyone involved in caring for Ernest during this difficult time. The compassion and patience provided by: Dr. Bellomo and her staff at New York Oncology and Hematology. The nursing staff at Albany Medical Center; Apheresis and D4E unit. The nursing staff at Ellis Hospital infusion Center. The support of Schenectady Community Hospice.

Known for quoting the lyrics of Frank Sinatra’s song, “My Way,” Ernest will be remembered for his fierce independence, strength, and loyalty to his family and faith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross in his name.

Relatives and friends may call on Saturday December 14, 2019 from 9:30am to 11 am followed by a Mass at 11am at St. Luke’s Church 1241 State Street Schenectady.

Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
