Elmer E. Campbell, 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Born in Schenectady, Elmer was the son of the late Elmer and Leona (Loomis) Campbell. A graduate of Draper High School, Elmer honorably served his country in the US Airforce 8th Air Corps and served with the 457th Bomber Group during World War II. During his time in the Airforce, Elmer was a Ball Turret Gunner, and flew in the B-17 Flying Fortress. Over his military career he flew 30 missions over Germany. Elmer was a manager in the Advertising and Sales department at General Electric for 42 years, retiring in the late 80's. In his spare time Elmer was a former youth baseball coach and his hobbies included woodworking, flying radio controlled planes, watching old western movies and spending time outdoors. Elmer was predeceased by his wives, Grace (Maney) Campbell in 1987 and Sarah (Burby) Campbell in 2010 as well as his sister, Marilyn Lyon. He leaves behind his children, Carol Rosse (Jack) of Rotterdam, Art Campbell of Holly Springs, NC, Garry Campbell (Wendy) of Glenville and Wayne Campbell (Natalie) of Rexford. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 21 at 11am at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady with a visitation held prior to the service from 10-11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in Memory's Gardens, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elmer's name can be made to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205. .
