Elizabeth S. Carruthers, 95, of Burlington, Vt. and formerly of Schenectady N.Y., died December 30, 2009, in Burlington. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary Hart Sorenson. She was a graduate of Schenectady High School. Elizabeth was formerly a piano teacher and church organist in Schenectady and in Burlington. As a member of the Bellevue Reformed Church, she directed the Junior Choir and was active in many musical presentations in her church. In addition to her love of music, she enjoyed the ferry rides across Lake Champlain, the beautiful Vermont scenery, and her adopted dogs. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert Carruthers Jr., a son, Richard Carruthers and brother Edward Sorenson. Survivors include her sons, Robert W. Carruthers and his wife Judy of Peoria, IL., Douglas Carruthers and his wife Colleen Irish of Westford, Vt., and Roger Carruthers and his wife Kazuko of Las Vegas, Nv., a niece, Mary Knapp and her husband Doug of Princetown, N.Y., and a nephew, Edward Sorenson and his wife Jean of Scotia, N.Y., and 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at the Schenectady Memorial Park in June. The family would like to thank the staff(s) of Allenwood and Birchwood for the caring help and affection they showed Mom. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or to a local Animal Foundation or Shelter would be appreciated.
